I don't know if anyone around here remembers those things made of folded paper with words in them but I actually still read a lot, or I try to.

I was curious if anyone else has been reading anything particularly good (or bad) since I am about at the end of my Christopher Moore/Cory Doctorow streak and am not sure if I want to dig in to my big pile of non-fiction and Kate McAllister.
The major problem — one of the major problems, for there are several — one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well known fact, that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.
And so this is the situation we find: a succession of Galactic Presidents who so much enjoy the fun and palaver of being in power that they very rarely notice that they're not.
And somewhere in the shadows behind them — who?
Who can possibly rule if no one who wants to do it can be allowed to?

I've read some Octavia Butler recently (Lilith's Brood, specifically). It was an especially welcome breath of fresh air after the Terry Goodkind novel I'd finished before. (Never. Again.)

I just finished the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. By far my favorite trilogy ever, and that's saying a lot. I highly recommend it.

Well, I'm not sure if it is something you have already read or not, but being a bun lover, I'm reading Watership Down. So far it is really enjoyable, but I've heard it is very sad.

I know its a wounder series as well, but it features anthro creatures, That is Brian Jacques' Redwall Series. They are all easy reads though. >.o Otherwise I always suggest any of Stephen King's books.

I used to love Stephen King and Michael Chriton but I haven't read either in a while. I picked up the twilight series and actually loved it but I thought The Host was a bit better. That all got me off on a trashy vampire novel kick that ran me through... well a lot of trashy vampire novels ;p
Lately I have been reading a TON of Christopher Moore and his silliness but it's wearing on me after reading how many of his books in a row...
I also have been on and off with Cory Doctorow, Little Brother is such an awesome book but a lot of his stories are really dark.

Beyond that it's just been a lot of random suggestions.

I actually haven't read Watership Down since the 80's I really should read it again.
I haven't heard of Redwall. You would think I would read more "anthro" stuff but I don't, I actually tend not to like any of the "fandom" works, though maybe I should try and give a few more authors some read throughs.

I'm reading some book about a blind man, a hallway that shouldn't exist, and a movie that doesn't exist either...

Well if you haven't yet....I highly suggest reading The Di Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, and yes, the books are SOOO much better then the movies.

Also, an easy read (and fav of mine  ) are the Chronicles of Elantra (by Michelle Sagara West). Book 6 is coming out Aug 1 of this year. The series fallows Kaylin through her adventures in the City of Elantra. Kaylin is basicly a detective who was raised on the street and has healing powers. Through the series you'll meet the immortal Barrani (think Elf), the winged Aerians (humans with wings who can fly), a race of telepaths, the dragon race (yes they go from human to dragon), and my favorite... the Leontine (lions).

And if you want to read more trashy vampire books ;) try out the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance. The main character is a clairvoyant who was raised by vampires....and I won't go any further ..... just a good trashy vamp series.

And then there is.....well.....HaHa....don't get me started on books....I don't stop.

A book about a review written by a blind man for a movie that doesn't exists that is about a house that has a hallway that can't exist in it?
Best... Book... Ever...

I forgot who I lent the house to.

I'm bad at describing stories because, frankly, I somehow manage to make all books sound retarded. I guess I try to dumb down the story to the point where I don't give anything away, which just doesn't work. Suffice it to say that the Night Angel Trilogy is about assassins in a magical world. It has incredibly well-written characters and an intricate plot that really keeps you guessing until the last few pages. It's definitely a page-turner and will keep you up all night.

If you're looking for something more relaxed (ie, trashy vampire novels ;) ), I recommend Laurell K. Hamilton. Then again, if you went on a trashy vampire binge, she was probably your first go.

If you're looking for dark, cynical stuff, there's always Chuck Pahlaniuk, always good for a laugh. Along the same lines is Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan, which is a quick read and quite hilarious in a that's-f'ed-up kind of way.

I have to agree on the Palahniuk. Good dark satirical reading, espicialy the older stuff. Choke and Invisible Monsters are both fun reads.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov has been a fascinating read so far.
