Don't think you can cause corrosion that fast with Berdan primed surplus ammo? Think again. And traditional solvent does NOT rid the barrel of the chemsalts used in Berdan primed ammo, so you get internal bore pitting after awhile.
Also if it is a big-5 sold Mosin then it has been re-Arsenaled and you will need to tap the front sight a bit to the left or the right due to the process of setup they do at the arsenal factories. Use a NON METALLIC deadblow-style mallet and a flat-punch to tap it over if you cannot do it with just the mallet. Just a couple LIGHT taps.
BTW, is your Mosin counter-bored? Looks like a 91/30 to me. most of the Big-5 ones are counterbored these days. Have a M91/30, M44 that needs a few things replaced, a Swiss K-11 waiting for a new correct bolt that I have coming, and a couple others coming now. I am 03FFL C&R licensed, so they are being delivered to my front door! My mailman hates me now. Also have a CZ-52 pistol, and am working on a PSL that I am going to have the guys over at Rifle Dynamics tune up, cut down to 19" barrel, re-crown, work over etc. Have an AK-47, and working on an under-folder 74. Send me a PM if you wanna go shooting sometime, I now have over 2000 rounds of 7.62x54r, and have two cans of ammo fir the K-11 coming when they are off back-order. Expensive Sparta that 7.5 Swiss.
Have several other guns, couple 22s, a double-barrel 10-gauge 1880 Meteor that was produced around the time of the fight at the OK Corral and the exact same model and year as the one sawed down and used by Doc Holiday. Several handguns, working on a second 1911 project gun right now, couple .410 shotguns. Spas-12 Riot gun. Enough .40 9mm and .45 to stave off a serious zombie invasion. Yote can testify to my overkill supply of ammunition.
And now that you have brought this up, I am looking at some Izhevsk 91/30s. You can't have just ONE mosin. Or one Milsurp for that matter.
I am currently starting up a custom-leather business, with six model/designs of Concealed Carry and OC holster, will be offering 1.5 Gun Belts soon, custom tooling/carving for an upcharge, and a single hand-fit shoulder rig, as well as knife sheaths and miscellaneous C-Spray and Tac-Light holsters. I am at this very moment headed out to my shop to work on a leather cheekpad/buttpiece that laces over the stock on a 91/30 for my own. I may or may not offer them for sale, though.
I'll be out at Hubcap shooting today @ 5AM sharp.

cool man! yeah maybe we can go shooting sometime. I don't have any shooting buddies. i'm mega shy though.
i've done pretty much all the research possible on nuggets before I bought it. Yeah, my rifle is pretty damn counterbored. Ah well. And I don't have a mallet to make the adjustment to my front sight yet, it was the first thing I noticed about the rifle.
so far I only have 20 remington 180gr rounds for it. have yet to fire them of course. my dad gave me a boresnake for cleaning but I'm nervous about using it since I hear it can ruin the rifling.

If you wanna learn to PROPERLY use the boresnake you are welcome to come shoot with me, bring it along, shoot some of my surplus ammo and I will show you proper usage of boresnake. If not, just remember. Pull the bolt, go in from the reciever, NOT from the end of barrel.

I suggest trying out the Clark County Shooting Park up north, it's a top notch establishment. I usually go there or American Shooters in Henderson when I wanna take out one or more of the pistols.
Happy shooting dude, and hit me up with a PM if you want more info on the Mosin Nagants, i got a few good resources.

The big deal with CCSP is that they do not have the LONG range section built yet. 100-200 yards is fine some days. Other days, you want to be doing 500-1200+ yards and some of the folks from the local shooters group DO go out that far and farther.
I hit up CCSP on Sunday. It was nice up there @ 0700 right when they opened but got hot fast.
